The City of Live Oak adopted a resolution declaring specific city-owned personal property surplus and authorizing disposal or sale.
During discussion of Resolution 2025-51, a council member asked explicitly how firearms included on the surplus list would be handled. Staff replied that the city would send firearms to a licensed Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealer, who would process transfer paperwork and handle the sale or disposal in accordance with legal requirements.
The council moved, seconded, and approved the resolution by voice vote.
What’s next: staff will coordinate with the police chief and a licensed FFL dealer to ensure transfers and sales follow state and federal requirements and will record the disposition in the city’s fixed-asset system.
