Pickleball courts, Al Rawlins and Heritage Pointe projects advance; Heritage turf praised

Parks & Recreation Director Steve Roberts provided several project updates. On the Pickleball Complex, Roberts said the city is constructing 15 courts (three undercover) with a new supporting building; the complex is "approximately around 80% done," with nets and play lines installed and the final acrylic finish delayed until spring conditions permit.
Roberts said design for Al Rawlins Park is finished and staff plan to put the project out to bid in December with work to start thereafter. On Heritage Pointe Park, Roberts said staff applied for the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program to fund major elements including pedestrian bridges, a restroom, an outdoor classroom pavilion, a river access point and trail connections. He also reported that turf infields installed across 10 Heritage Point fields were in use since March and had performed well: "the turf has been great, and we hadn't had to cancel anything."
Roberts said planned Heritage Pointe improvements also include LED light retrofits, shade structures and batting cages. He emphasized keeping grass fields at certain community sites where appropriate and improving drainage across play surfaces.
