The Board of Education authorized a first contract amendment with Energy Systems Group LLC (ESG) to accommodate modifications required by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) for the district's energy performance contract. The project now includes solar generation, remote metering, two boilers at RJO and additional light sensor work in district buildings.
Superintendent Dr. Egan said the overall project exceeds $7,000,000 and that approximately $2,670,000 in federal grants and incentives are being leveraged; those grants sunset at the end of 2025, making timely amendment important. "The net cost of the project is then $4,400,000," Dr. Egan said, adding that energy savings are expected to repay that amount over an 18‑year guarantee period.
Project forecasting provided at the meeting projected a positive cash flow over the 18‑year term and an expected net surplus of roughly $723,000 after savings are realized. Board members discussed the scale and replacement cost of school boilers and noted the benefit that the project will deliver needed boiler replacements without a separate capital outlay by the district.
The board voted to approve the first contract amendment. The resolution authorizes the board president to execute documents required to amend the agreement and notes that the amended scope and exhibits were submitted to NYSED for review.
