Willows Fire Department honored as volunteers, career staff credited with October resuscitation

Fire Chief Monk presented lifesaver awards on Dec. 9 to volunteer and career members of the Willows Fire Department for their roles in saving a resident—s life on Oct. 18.
Chief Monk said Willow's personnel found an unresponsive male patient on the floor of an upstairs bedroom and immediately began high‑quality CPR and applied an automated external defibrillator. "They delivered multiple shocks with the AED and secured an airway," the chief said, adding that Enloe paramedics arrived soon after and Willow's crews supported both basic and advanced life‑support interventions. The chief reported return of spontaneous circulation on scene and that the patient was later discharged from Enloe Medical Center with no neurological deficits.
The chief credited the outcome to coordinated teamwork and 24‑hour staffing that allows career staff to train volunteers and reduce response times. He named the volunteers and crew members being recognized and thanked them for their work. "A lot of these guys are pretty humble, and they don't necessarily come out looking for this," he said.
The council applauded the department and noted the emotional and operational importance of successful resuscitations for both patients and first responders. The recognition highlights the role of volunteer responders supported by paid staff in the city's emergency medical response.
The awards were presented publicly at City Hall as part of the council's ceremonial matters.
