Radcliffe parks staff provided a structural and pest-damage update on the city’s historic log cabins and asked the council to approve next steps.

Miss Baker said all cabins show termite damage and signs of powderpost beetle infestation; several logs require treatment and some foundations and roof boards need repair. She recommended treating termites as soon as possible and storing the worst cabin’s stove section on-site after treating it to stop further deterioration. Baker said she has contacted multiple log-restoration contractors and expected to collect two additional quotes during the week.

Baker proposed prioritizing work: store/treat the most damaged cabin, then replace deteriorated logs in the worst building, then address foundation and roofing issues in the remaining cabins. Councilmembers asked Baker to provide cost estimates so the council can determine what to fund within the current budget or return with a formal funding request.

What’s next: Baker will collect contractor quotes and report estimates to the council for budgeting decisions.
