Construction managers told the board Area D of West Hardin Middle School is nearly dried-in with interior finishes to follow; Child Nutrition facility demolition and dry-storage freezer slab work are underway with completion targeted by May; Trojan Way project is out for bid with responses due Dec. 4.
Construction and facilities staff updated the board on multiple district projects including West Hardin Middle School, the Child Nutrition facility and Trojan Way Elementary.
On West Hardin Middle, the construction manager said structural work in Area D is largely complete, trusses and roof slabs are set and the area is nearly dried in, allowing interior finishes and temporary heat to begin within weeks. "This area is nearly dried in. Most of the inside is ready for finishes to start here in the next couple of months," the manager said.
For the Child Nutrition facility, staff described demolition of the old building, extensive site grading, a stormwater detention basin, and the large two-layer slab and freezer footprint in the new dry-storage area. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins have been inspected and most are complete; windows and doors were scheduled to be installed in the week following the presentation.
Trojan Way Elementary, intended to replace North Park, is out for bid with submissions due Dec. 4 and the board expects to review numbers at the January meeting before awarding direction to proceed.
Board members asked scheduling questions and expressed satisfaction with contractor progress. Several timeline targets were described but remain subject to weather and subcontractor sequencing.
