The Hardin County Board of Education convened a recognition night and approved a ceremonial resolution for its Difference Maker Awards before presenting dozens of student and staff honors.
The board moved to approve the Difference Maker Awards resolution during the opening portion of the meeting; a motion to adopt the resolution was made at the dais and approved by voice vote (SEG 069–075). The agenda then shifted to a multi-school awards program in which students and staff were called to the stage to receive medals and trophies.
The awards covered a broad range of contests and recognitions: Central Hardin Junior Emily Tester was recognized for an "engaged learner" award tied to her work on a proposed dress-code policy (SEG 088–096); John Hardin High School’s Low Incidence Unit and its staff were honored for running a student business, Family Lemonade, and donating proceeds to community programs in Hardin and Bullock counties (SEG 108–131). Dozens of other students from schools across the district earned top-three finishes in Beta competitions, VEX robotics, ProStart culinary contests and state FBLA and DECA events.
Student participants selected for summer Governor’s School programs were also introduced. According to district staff, 19 students were chosen for Governor’s School for Scholars, six for Governor’s School for the Arts and one for Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (SEG 988–992). Several students spoke briefly about their plans and what they hoped to learn at the programs (SEG 994–1079).
Community partners received recognition as well. Pastors Janie and Aubrey Jackson were singled out for holiday-season donations and support to district families (SEG 177–188). Barbers Lonnie Davis, Dante Garrett and Donald Bards were recognized for free haircuts and other community support through the Cut Zone (SEG 202–211).
The recognition portion closed with applause for the many named students and teachers; the board paused throughout the program for photo opportunities and to highlight national qualifiers and state champions. The evening proceeded to other business after the awards presentations.
The board’s ceremonial vote on the Difference Maker Awards and the long list of honorees mark the district’s effort to showcase student achievement and community partnerships ahead of end-of-year graduations.
