Truman Elementary students demonstrate Sphero robots funded by Rocky Mountain Power grant

Annie Mast, Truman Elementary’s STEM teacher, told the board the school was awarded a grant from Rocky Mountain Power to buy 10 Sphero Bolt+ robots and supporting units to expand elementary programming. “In early June of this year, we found out that we had been awarded a grant from Rocky Mountain Power Company for the purchase of 10 Sphero Bolt Plus and 10 Indie robots to make programming come to life in our STEM classroom,” Mast said.
Mast said the devices have supported project‑based learning and perseverance through trial‑and‑error programming. She brought 10 students to the meeting to present and wave while describing a variety of classroom projects including programming the robots to model the Earth’s layers and to move as a ‘school of fish.’ Students thanked teachers and community supporters, and trustees praised the grant and the students’ work.
