Fullerton School District celebrates PBIS achievements; district says all 20 sites earned platinum recognition

Fullerton School District staff used the awards portion of the meeting to recognize districtwide progress on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and to present banners to schools that earned distinction.
Amy Sotolongo, the district PBIS TOSA, told the board that PBIS is a research-based, tiered framework that helps teach and reinforce positive behavior across school settings. "Using a tiered system of supports schools create learning environments where every student across all settings can thrive," Sotolongo said.
Sotolongo described training and structures used across campuses and told the board that the district extends PBIS practices to school buses. "We are the only known district in Orange County that's currently implementing PBIS on the bus," she said, explaining that bus drivers receive training, use a dedicated bus matrix and reinforce expectations with a bus-specific reward system.
For the second year in a row, Sotolongo said, all 20 district school sites earned platinum-level recognition from the California PBIS Coalition, the organization’s highest level of distinction. Each school was called forward to receive a banner and pose for a photograph with board members.
Amy closed the awards segment by thanking staff and inviting attendees to a short recess with cupcakes before the board convened in the boardroom.
