At its meeting the Hamtramck School District board approved three separate procurement actions and several facilities items after presentations and questions from trustees.
Projection system approval: Following a presentation from community member DJ and others, the board moved to approve purchase of a Loxido core projection system for the community center with a total cost not to exceed $45,000. The item was described as cost-neutral after donor advertising and partnerships with alumni-run businesses; board minutes record the motion by Michelle Gahan, second by Miss Watson, and a voice vote recorded as 5 ayes, 2 absent. The purchase will be funded by the athletic department, the high school and the recreation department.
Dickinson East HVAC change order: The board approved a change order to the Dickinson East HVAC project not to exceed $130,000 to replace nonoperational cabinet-unit heaters and to integrate the work into the district Building Management System. The motion (moved by Mr. Obey, second by Mr. Boleynik) passed with 5 ayes, 2 absent.
Emergency sump-pump contract: Facilities staff recommended, and the board approved, an emergency purchase and contract with Ball Air Systems for replacement of failed sump pumps and related work at Dickinson East to address storm/sewer backups. The total authorized amount for the emergency purchase is $106,065 and the motion carried with 5 ayes, 2 absent.
Other business: staff reported several summer construction projects finished under budget, producing credits (examples cited: $30,000 credit for high-school restroom remodel and a roughly $100,000 credit on a window replacement project). Trustees also approved the consent agenda (items A through S) by voice vote with 5 ayes and 2 absent.
