The Parma Schools Foundation donated $1,800 to the Parma City School District to help transport students to senior centers across Parma City, Parma Heights and Seven Hills, Superintendent Dr. Hunt said at the board's November meeting.
John Schweitzer, representing the Parma Schools Foundation, told the board the donation will help pay for transportation for band members, choirs and elementary students to visit senior centers for activities such as pen‑pal exchanges and holiday celebrations. "This donation will allow us to get kids, band members, choirs, elementary kids for pen pals," he said, adding the events help the seniors and students interact.
Gina Greenewald, secretary of the Parma Council PTA, gave a PTA report announcing that submissions for the National PTA Reflections program are due by Dec. 5, a winter luncheon will be held Dec. 3 at Pazos Grand Ballroom to raise funds for community scholarships, and senior scholarship application assemblies will be held in two weeks to allow seniors the holiday break to finish applications.
Board members thanked the foundation and other donors, including American Legion Post 5723, which the transcript records as donating $2,500 to several schools. The board recorded and approved the donation acceptance in its finance action items later in the meeting.
