Conroe High School construction pushed to Aug. 3, 2026; change orders added $17.7M, district says

A project video and presentation said crews are installing structural decking, windows and interior mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems as the project approaches enclosure. The administration told trustees the project—s original substantial-completion target (Aug. 2025) slipped and the current substantial-completion date in the change-order paperwork is Aug. 3, 2026. The project—s guaranteed maximum price has grown by $17.7 million across multiple change orders; staff said the most recent change order totaled $7.7 million and that about $3.5 million of that amount was for ed-spec upgrades the district requested.
In response to trustee questions, staff explained that some schedule impacts were tied to utility-provider timing and material allocations early in the program. The administration said liquidated-damage provisions are available in the contract, and that the contractor remains committed to the Aug. 3, 2026 substantial-completion date while punch-list and remaining interior work will continue after turnover.
Trustees asked for a breakdown of culpability—what portion of cost and schedule changes were attributable to owner-directed changes, design errors, or contractor issues—and requested the district provide the culpability report and original/updated schedules for board review. The administration said it will provide that documentation.
What comes next: staff will provide the requested schedule and culpability breakdown to trustees and continue monthly construction updates; the district said an on-site power tie-in scheduled around Thanksgiving should improve progress heading into December.
