Elko County school board hears Lexia rollout, reviews attendance‑area policy and travel reimbursements, accepts negotiated agreements

Elko County School District trustees on the evening’s agenda heard a positive first‑quarter update on Lexia Core5 reading software, took a first look at a proposed attendance‑area policy drafted to align with Assembly Bill 533, discussed revisions to travel and reimbursement rules, and accepted two negotiated master agreements after a closed‑session negotiation.

Turney, the district’s elementary director, presented the Lexia Core5 report and said the program has been adopted at every elementary campus: "100% of our campuses have adopted this." Turney said districtwide the share of students working two or more grades below level dropped from 48% at the start level to 39% at the end level in the report period, and students meeting the end‑of‑year benchmark rose from 19% to 24%. Turney highlighted stronger performance in early grades — first grade saw a decline from 21% to 7% of students two or more grades below level, and kindergarten benchmark attainment rose from 23% to 47% — and outlined next steps including targeted principal meetings, additional teacher training on Lexia data, and on‑site coaching. Turney said a follow‑up report is planned for late February–mid March to compare Lexia outcomes with MAP results.
