During the meeting's final public-comment period, parent Tracy Thomas asked when the new Carlin playground will be available for children after watching construction progress and noted her kindergartner's disappointment.
District staff responded that the playground surface (mulch) is a safety requirement and that some mulch pallets are already onsite; installation of the surfacing is expected toward the end of the month. Staff said it would be "not recommended" to allow children to use the equipment before the proper protective surfacing is in place because of the injury risk.
Administrators said they would coordinate with site administration and insurance personnel to open the equipment as soon as it is safe to do so.
