Staff outlines approach for Englewood Arts/Hampton Hall metrics and two‑year agreement extension

City staff updated the Cultural Arts Commission on a council request to amend the Englewood Arts agreement for Hampton Hall to include clearer programming metrics and information about community reach.

Vanessa Davis said council asked staff to meet with Englewood Arts to determine what metrics the nonprofit could reasonably supply. Englewood Arts (represented in meetings by Eric) provided suggested metrics that cover rental use, concert and program attendance and select finance items. Council approved a two‑year contract extension rather than the five years that had been requested; staff said the metrics report will be collected and submitted to the CAC in January for comment prior to the next council discussion on contract renewal in April 2027.

"They will collect all the data that they have established in the metrics that they provided," Davis said, describing a process where Englewood Arts prepares a summary report in January, CAC reviews and offers recommendations, and staff forwards comments to City Council ahead of the 2028 contract renewal cycle.

Staff noted one practical option under consideration: replacing a scoring/criteria tool with a written report from Englewood Arts because scoring each program would create a heavy workload for the commission. If changes to the agreement are recommended, staff said those would be presented as a council directive or contract amendment.

Next steps: Englewood Arts will assemble the requested metrics and submit a report to the commission in January; the CAC will review and send recommendations to City Council ahead of the contract renewal timeline.
