In his report to the Eugene Police Commission, the deputy chief summarized staffing changes, community outreach and the department's recent decision to end its Flock Safety camera contract.

The deputy chief said the department will hire six new officers on the next hiring round but remains roughly 20 officers short of target staffing. He highlighted recent community events — including a meal service at Saint Vincent de Paul and a 'Shop with a Cop' event funded by the Salem Police Foundation — as examples of outreach.

On the Flock camera program, the deputy chief said the contract was terminated last Friday and that staff are still awaiting a response from Flock Safety Systems. He also said the department is daily-checking its Flock portal to ensure no cameras have been turned on inadvertently.

The deputy chief announced his retirement at the end of the month and said Captain Jake Burke will be appointed deputy chief; commissioners and others thanked him for his service.
