Huntersville swears in mayor and two commissioners; Jennifer Hunt elected mayor pro tem

At its Dec. 2 organizational meeting the Huntersville Town Board swore in Christie Clark as mayor and welcomed newly elected commissioners; the board unanimously elected Commissioner Jennifer Hunt as mayor pro tem and adopted the 2026 meeting schedule.
Christie Clark was sworn in as mayor of the town of Huntersville during the board’s Dec. 2 organizational meeting, where judges administered oaths for the incoming mayor and several commissioners.
The board recessed briefly and then conducted a swearing-in ceremony in which Clark repeated the oath to “support and maintain the Constitution and laws of the United States” and to “faithfully discharge the duties” of mayor of the town of Huntersville, North Carolina. Judges and fellow officials congratulated Clark following the oath.
The board also administered oaths to commissioners Jennifer Hunt, Latoya Rivers, Nick Walsh, Edwin Quarles, Scott Cornett and Heather Smallwood during the ceremony. After the oath sequence, the mayor recognized former mayors in attendance.
On procedural business the board unanimously adopted the meeting agenda and consent agenda. Commissioners then voted unanimously to elect Commissioner Jennifer Hunt as mayor pro tem. The board also approved the town’s regular meeting schedule for 2026 by unanimous vote.
During opening announcements staff reminded residents that the town’s leaf collection season runs through Jan. 15, plastic bags are no longer accepted for leaves, and residents may place up to 10 brown paper bags for weekly collection. Parks and Recreation also promoted a town tree lighting on Dec. 5 in Veterans Park and a Holidays in Huntersville event on Dec. 6.
The meeting concluded after closing remarks from commissioners and a unanimous vote to adjourn.
