Huron approves $60,909 change order to finish 2025 street milling and overlay project

The Huron City Commission on Nov. 24 approved change order No. 2 and a payment request to finalize the 2025 Street Milling & Overlay contract. City Engineer Brett Runge told commissioners the project benefited from favorable asphalt bids this year, which allowed the city to add several additional streets (Kansas Ave NE, 18th St near the high school, 10th St NE, Dakota Ave, 14th St NE, Union Ave and Center St).
Runge described the change order as a balancing item required to close out the contract; the additional work resulted in a change order amount of approximately $60,909.96 and a payment request of about $370,927.60. He reported the total project budget was $1,570,000 and the project closeout will show a lower final cost (presented as about $1,531,009.07 in the presentation).
Commissioners asked procedural questions and then moved and approved the change order by roll call. Public Works will complete final closeout and accounting under the project code for Street Milling & Overlay.
