The commission held a first reading of Ordinance No. 2277-2-8, a housekeeping update of election terms, precincts and the schedule for commission appointments.
Staff said the draft largely reflects existing practice and noted one proposed timing change: moving commission appointments to August to better align with newly elected officials taking office in July. The ordinance also updates mayoral appointments and cleans up precinct language to reflect use of a vote center at the Heron Arena and an intent to combine the municipal election with county and school elections on the first Tuesday in June.
An attorney reviewed the draft and suggested minor edits, which were reflected in the displayed version. The commission approved the ordinance on first reading and anticipates a second reading next week.
