Broadview Elementary principal highlights rising enrollment, reading push and community support
Summary
Principal Amber Steele told the Franklin County School Board that Broadview Elementary is a Level 5 reward school with enrollment at 243 and detailed a reading initiative (739 books tested in the first nine weeks), family-engagement events, and community donations including bicycles and a quilt for a former custodian.
Amber Steele, principal of Broadview Elementary, told the Franklin County School Board the school’s staff and community are focused on student engagement and learning.
"I want you to be able to feel the love and support and joy of learning that we experience every single day in our building," Steele said during the board’s monthly spotlight presentation. She said Broadview is a Level 5 reward school and that enrollment has risen to 243 students.
Steele described a schoolwide reading incentive that, in the first nine-week period, produced 739 books read and tested. Teachers post progress outside classrooms and students earn trophies and recognition by grade level. She also highlighted nonacademic activities and family engagement events: an open house with STEM projects that drew hundreds, a veterans-day program, a pumpkin patch and lantern activity, and an "Eagle" bonfire supported by the local fire department.
Community partners and donors also contributed: the local fire department donated 14 bicycles during fire-prevention week; a Broadview community member donated a quilt that was presented to former custodian Zeke Davis; and local businesses contributed items to classroom projects and student awards. Steele credited maintenance and support staff for their hands-on engagement with students.
The presentation closed with board members in the room applauding students and staff and noting individual student athletic commitments announced during the meeting.
