Council approves $500 grant for library 'flight path' campaign to reduce bird strikes

Mount Pleasant — The City Council unanimously approved a $500 grant on Dec. 2 to support a "flight path" campaign at the Mount Pleasant Public Library.
Library staff member Lupe said the grant from Tangle Bank and the Space Science Institute will fund nature books and glass-awareness stickers for tall windows at the library to reduce bird strikes. "We've already done the bulk of the programming that's associated with it, but we just received the funds," Lupe said. She credited donors, sponsors and library staff for supporting the annual programming.
Council members praised the staff for pursuing grant opportunities. A motion to amend the fiscal-year 2025 budget to accept the grant was moved, seconded and recorded as unanimous.
Next steps: Library staff will purchase books and stickers and install the awareness materials on designated windows.
