Board approves collaborative conferencing management team after survey passes
Summary
The board approved a seven-member collaborative conferencing management team after a district survey met the 51% threshold (53.6% in favor); staff will receive an MOU from the teacher representatives and the team will coordinate upcoming negotiations.
The Johnson County School Board voted to approve a seven-member management team to represent the district in collaborative conferencing with teachers, after district leaders reported the required survey threshold was met.
Staff reported the collaborative conferencing survey returned 53.6% in favor, above the 51% threshold required to proceed. The board then approved a management team composed of Angie Wheels (point of contact), Dr. Imogene South, Mark Hageman, Herbie Adams, Leon Henley, Dr. Steven Long and Tina Lippert, with Karen Ward serving as recorder. The management team will work with teacher representatives to develop a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on items the representatives bring forward.
A board member who moved the approval said the process will give educators the opportunity to bring proposals to the district. The motion to approve the management team was seconded and passed by roll call with all present members voting yes.
Board discussion noted this collaborative-conferencing process replaces older negotiation procedures; no changes to district policy were adopted at the meeting beyond approving the management team.
