District provides bond program and facilities construction update
Summary
Galena Park ISD facilities staff reported progress and setbacks on bond-funded projects, including rain delays at Galena Park High School Phase 3A and window replacement work at North Shore Senior High; district said crews are working to stay on schedule and materials are on site.
Ed Martier, director of facilities planning and construction, briefed the board on the 2016 and 2024 bond program work.
Martier said Galena Park High School Phase 3A experienced rain‑related slowdowns (an elevator well filled with water) but crews returned with a large on‑site crew and beam pours were scheduled. He noted plumbers had to pump water after storms but expected to catch up on schedule over the following weeks. For North Shore Senior High, Martier said fenestration/window replacement materials are on site and a mockup showing the new window profile and waterproofing details was presented; work is scheduled to occur during the upcoming break.
The update covered typical construction details — saw cutting brick for waterproofing, metal panel reveals with school red accents, and sequencing to preserve campus operations while work proceeds. The board received the update; no construction contract awards or change orders were recorded on the public motion items at this meeting.
