The Jackson Public School District board approved a slate of agreements and memoranda aimed at expanding instructional supports, clinical partnerships and district services.
The administration recommended and the board approved a software agreement with Snorkel, an artificial intelligence classroom tool the district piloted at secondary schools. "Snorkel is an innovative program that utilizes artificial intelligence," Dr. Cormac said while asking trustees to approve the contract.
Trustees also approved a renewal of a long‑standing partnership with the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) for the district’s "base pair" program centered at Murrah High School. The administration described the program as a decades‑long collaboration that places scholars in health‑science research opportunities at UMMC and recommended renewal for continued hands‑on experience.
The board approved an outcomes‑based contract with Mathematics Tutoring LLC designed to accelerate mathematics proficiency for students the district classifies as 'bubble' students—those just below proficiency. Miss Blackshear described the model as payment tied to results, with at least 40% of vendor payment contingent on student growth. She told trustees the program’s prior middle‑school pilot produced measurable gains: "In just 5 to 7 weeks, we saw about 21.8% of our scholars advance to proficiency," she said.
Other approvals included a renewed memorandum of understanding with Tougaloo College for field experience placements for teacher candidates (2025–2028), a three‑year agreement with the Juanita Sims Doty Foundation to provide mentorship and after‑school tutoring, an amendment to an Operation Shoestring MOU to add security services through July 30, 2027, and an agreement with BBG Inc. for an appraisal of the Landmark Center office building to inform potential acquisition.
Most items were approved following routine motions and aye votes recorded by the chair; the meeting’s consent agenda (finance, general, personnel) was also approved without recorded opposition.
Board members asked procedural and operational questions about program details, data reporting and site logistics but did not withhold approval. Administrators said they would provide weekly feedback and data on outcomes for the tutoring contract and maintain partnership oversight for other agreements.
The board closed the meeting after approving the consent items and adjourning.
