During opening remarks and a special presentation, the Jackson Public School District recognized student achievement and introduced the district’s 2025–26 student school board representatives.

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Cormack and assistant superintendent Lakeisha Marshall Thomas presented policy BHAA, which establishes the role of a student board representative from each high school and describes board‑member mentorship, presentations at board meetings and opportunities for student voice in district decision making.

Student representatives from Callaway (Leila Ba), Forrester (Kalish Johnson), Jim Hill (Emily Wilson), Murrah (Demaine Johnson), Lanier (Zachary McClendon), Jackson Middle College (Zaria Wilson), Tougaloo Early College (Anna Grace Martin) and Provine (Caitlin Bingham Henderson) introduced themselves and outlined their priorities for the year.

The board also publicly recognized Blackburn Middle School’s football team for its Metro Area championship and undefeated 9–0 season, with Coach Kevin Goss and student leaders invited forward for applause.

What happens next: the administration said it will create opportunities for more regular board‑student engagement and the student representatives will be asked to participate in future board discussions and committee work under policy BHAA.
