He said the district’s 2025 APR score “ended up at 95.2,” which he said places Kearney at the top of its Kansas City peer group and tied for 10th in Missouri among traditional districts and charters.
“These are reasons to celebrate,” Dr. Miller said, crediting teachers, building principals and the academic services team for the results. He noted the APR’s volatility under the state’s growth metrics and recommended looking at the three‑year composite — which the district’s composite rose to about 90 percent after the 95.2 result.
On operations, Dr. Miller read a list of extracurricular and individual student honors — including conference and district titles, state appearances and all‑state music honors — and thanked staff and families for their work.
Board members asked about tradeoffs in scheduling and electives as enrollment shifts at the junior‑high level; curriculum staff said the 2026–27 program of studies under consideration includes course‑alignment changes and scheduling adjustments to preserve electives while addressing low‑enrollment classes.
The next procedural step: the board approved the 2026–27 program of studies later in the meeting, and the district plans more detailed APR and survey presentations in December.
