Board OKs bond-funded roof restoration package, Kerberg Roofing to provide labor

The Kearney R‑I Board approved a bid package to restore and replace multiple roof sections at Kearney High School, including the field house and associated locker-room areas. The purchase includes Garland roofing materials and labor from Kerberg Roofing, and the presenter said the work is partially funded by the district’s 2022 bond.

An administrator told trustees the package covers nine roof sections plus the field house; five bidders attended the pre-bid walk and four submitted bids. Board members asked whether the field house referenced was the older structure and how the schedule would affect spring athletics; the presenter said the high-school work is planned to begin the day after the last day of school, with the field-house work possibly starting in May once events conclude.

The board approved the package by motion (speaker 5 moved; speaker 13 seconded). The administration said continuing with Garland products helps preserve warranty consistency across the district and that Kerberg Roofing has worked previously in the district. Funding for the work was described as “part funded fully by the 2022 bond.”

The administration will return with final contract documents and a construction schedule; trustees asked for clarity about scheduling around district events and confirmed bond funds will cover the project portion indicated.
