Board grants Purdue short-film permit for alley scenes pending neighbor feedback

Professor Jeremy Sklar, of Purdue University’s film department, asked the board for permission to film a short movie titled Calling Soul in an alley between 505 and 519 Main Street in Lafayette. Sklar said the production will shoot two nights—Wednesday, Jan. 7 and Thursday, Jan. 8—from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., and that good-neighbor letters have been distributed to nearby properties.
Sklar described the production as a hybrid of professional leads and student crew from a class, with visiting professionals from New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo working with students as part of a course. He said the night schedule was chosen to avoid business traffic. The chair noted that neighbors who receive the good-neighbor letter could provide feedback between the present meeting and Jan. 16; the board approved the special-event request with that caveat.
Sklar thanked the board and said he hoped to make a short film annually and eventually combine them into a feature-level project.
