The Lafayette Redevelopment Commission on Dec. 18 approved its 2026 meeting schedule, authorized a $17,600 boundary survey of former Wabash Railroad corridor land and accepted claims totaling $837,539.40.
The presiding officer opened the meeting and asked for approval of the November minutes. A motion to approve the minutes was made and approved by voice vote.
The commission then considered and approved the commission’s 2026 meeting dates. According to the director, the proposed schedule sets meetings for the fourth Thursday of each month, except November and December, which would meet on the third Thursday. "I move approval of the Lafayette Redevelopment Commission meeting dates for 2026," a board member said; the motion was seconded and approved.
On a separate agenda item, the commission approved hiring Tibor Design Services to prepare a boundary survey and legal description for parcels of the former Wabash Railroad Corridor located between Romick Street and New York Street. The director described interest in portions of the railroad corridor and said, "The amount of the project would be $17,600." Commissioners asked whether a public alley vacate associated with work would affect nearby residences; staff clarified that sections necessary for home access would not be vacated and that any vacation would be temporary to accommodate construction access. A motion to approve engaging Tibor Design Services was moved and approved by voice vote.
During the director's report, board members asked about the delayed opening of Park East Boulevard. The director said snow and limited visibility for pavement markings delayed the opening and that staff were discussing timing with an expectation the road could open the following week once markings were visible.
The commission also received a status update on a claim related to the farmers market (referred to in the transcript as an MSKS claim); the director said the matter was still being finalized and promised more information next month.
On finance, a board member moved that the commission accept claims totaling $837,539.40 for Dec. 18, 2025; the director seconded. The presiding officer called for a voice vote and the claims were approved.
The presiding officer opened the meeting for public comment but no substantive public remarks were recorded. The chair closed with holiday greetings and the commission adjourned after a voice vote.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the Tibor Design Services boundary survey, continue coordination on Park East Boulevard opening and provide an update on the farmers market/MSKS matter at a future meeting.
