The Spokane County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously Dec. 16 to select Medeco as the county’s detention medical, dental and pharmacy contractor for project number 25-5355.
An unidentified Medeco representative told commissioners the company will add 10 full‑time employees during a six‑month start‑up, provide two weeks of pre‑start training for new personnel, expand weekend primary‑care coverage and increase medication‑for‑opioid‑use‑disorder (MOUD) services. “We will provide training for the personnel that start on February 1…to make sure we have a smoother transition,” the presenter said. He also said the selection committee awarded the company a score of 100 out of 100.
Commissioners praised the vendor’s commitments and noted the transition is planned for Feb. 1. Commissioner (speaker 7) moved to approve the selection; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Why it matters: County officials said the contract expands clinical coverage in the jail, including weekend primary‑care presence and psychiatric support, and commits resources to opioid‑use disorder treatment during incarceration—services they said may improve continuity of care and reentry outcomes.
What the board approved: The motion authorized the county to enter into contract negotiations and finalize the services agreement with Medeco (project 25‑5355). The contract terms discussed at the meeting included the staffing plan, start date and training timeline; precise contract dollar amounts were not specified during the public presentation.
The board took the action after brief public praise for the vendor and no public opposition. The county chair said the contract will move forward to implementation and welcomed the contractor to Spokane.
