Placerville council approves engineering task order for city broadband construction inspection

The Placerville City Council on Dec. 9 ratified an existing consulting agreement and approved task order 2 with Webster Engineering to provide construction inspection, office engineering and related services for the city’s broadband fiber optic Phase 1 project.
Public Works/engineering staff said in 2025 the department faced heavy concurrent workloads and encroachment-permit activity; contracting inspection work to Webster Engineering ensured broadband infrastructure could be placed before sidewalk and paving work proceeded. Staff said Webster was the most qualified of two firms solicited.
Task order 2 covers construction inspection for remaining segments of the project, plan review for encroachment permits, weekly project meeting coordination and project documentation. Staff recommended approval of task order 2, not to exceed $168,235; the council approved the action by roll call.
What’s next: Staff will proceed with inspection oversight under the authorized task order and coordinate with city construction schedules to complete Phase 1 segments.
