Atlanta Council honors Howard Shook with proclamation and awards on his final council day

A short tribute video and remarks from former mayors and retired officials preceded the proclamation. Council member Andrea Boone and others led a round of personal tributes describing Shook as a steadying presence who prioritized neighborhoods and fiscal prudence.
Shook, who chairs the finance committee and represented Buckhead, thanked colleagues and acknowledged family in the audience. He reserved time at the end of the meeting for additional remarks and photos with former and current officials.
The council’s formal proclamation credited Shook with chairing or serving on all standing committees, guiding reserve policy and participation in pension and government-efficiency efforts. The meeting closed the public recognition with a council photo and the official proclamation on the record.
