Glenn Sylvester sworn in as Daly City mayor; Teresa Perano named vice mayor

Glenn Sylvester was sworn in as mayor of Daly City on Dec. 9 after a roll-call vote at the council’s annual reorganization meeting. Council member Justin Manalo nominated Sylvester and the council approved the nomination with one abstention by Council member DeGiovanni; Council members Perano, Manalo and outgoing Mayor Rod Das Magdwal voted to confirm him.
The new mayor took the oath of office in a family-led ceremony and received congratulations from fellow council members. "It gives me great pleasure and deep gratitude to sit before you today as your mayor for the upcoming year," Sylvester said following his swearing-in, thanking family, staff and colleagues for their support.
Council member Manalo then nominated Teresa Perano for vice mayor. The council confirmed Perano by roll-call vote with the same abstention pattern: DeGiovanni abstained and Perano, Das Magdwal, Manalo and Sylvester voted aye. Perano was sworn in by a family member and offered brief remarks thanking supporters and staff: "I am proud to say that Daly City has been my home for my entire life," she said.
The votes and ceremonial oaths completed the formal reorganization. The council recessed briefly for a reception and then reconvened to present a series of community awards and recognitions.
