Daly City swears in Adonis Marcelino; Christina Luna elected vice chair of recreation commission

Adonis Marcelino was sworn in as a recreation commissioner at the Daly City Recreation Commission meeting on Oct. 28, Commissioners and council members said. Councilwoman Jocelyn Manalo administered the oath and led Marcelino in the oath to support the U.S. and California constitutions. After the formal pinning and a brief introduction, Marcelino thanked the audience and city leadership. "All glory to God. With God, anything is possible," he said.
The commission then moved to reorganize its leadership to fill a vacant vice chair seat. A fellow commissioner nominated Christina Luna; that nomination was seconded and, after a motion to close nominations, the commission moved to elect Luna as vice chair. The vote was taken by voice/roll call with affirmative responses recorded from Commissioner Ortiz, Commissioner Luna, the chair, and Commissioner Marcelino; the motion was approved.
The reorganization came amid praise from council and staff for the department's recent work. Councilwoman Jocelyn Manalo thanked Recreation Director Denise Brown and staff for events that serve "the young generation, our elders, and working families," and for work that strengthens community ties.
No public comments were submitted for this meeting and the commission completed routine business including roll call and approval of the meeting agenda and minutes before and after the reorganization. The commission adjourned at the end of the meeting and plans to reconvene next month.
