The Marion County Commission voted to set a public hearing for Jan. 6, 2026, to consider a request by landowners to close Walker Bottom Road at the county’s east side near the four-lane highway. Commissioner (speaker 7) told the commission that several landowners had asked for the closure and that the family of a recently deceased owner now supported the request.
"I just asked Scott to put it on here to have public hearing to close," the commissioner said, explaining the road position and recent outreach from property owners. Commissioners noted the public hearing notice will be advertised and discussed scheduling conflicts with an interstate-area meeting planned Jan. 5; the commission agreed to move its regular meeting to Jan. 6 so the hearing can proceed.
The discussion described the road as a roughly 150-yard spur that requires a creek crossing to access and that some local residents and the sheriff are familiar with the location. No final decision to close the road was made; the motion set the public hearing date and directed staff to advertise and handle notifications.
The hearing is scheduled to allow affected neighbors, stakeholders and county staff to present information before the commission makes a final determination.
