Resident urges probe of Meals on Wheels; court recognizes Eagle Scout, approves SART appointments

DENTON, Texas — A resident used the public-comment period at the Denton County Commissioners Court on Dec. 2 to call for a review of SPAN’s Meals on Wheels of Denton County; later the court recognized an Eagle Scout and approved appointments to the county’s Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).
Public comment: LaCobra Wolf of Corinth told the court she feared mismanagement at SPAN’s Meals on Wheels could result in seniors being returned to waiting lists. “I urge someone to perform a deep dive in staff turnover, layoffs, while certain management receives bonuses and raises,” she said, and asked the court to examine board oversight. The comment was recorded under the public-input item; no county staff response is recorded in the transcript.
A second public commenter, Gordon Jones of Double Oak (who identified himself as a Meals on Wheels volunteer), described traffic-safety problems at the FM 1830 and Ryan Road intersection and proposed a roundabout as a possible fix; he offered to answer follow-up questions.
Eagle Scout proclamation: The court read and adopted a proclamation honoring Stefan Arozzi for attaining Eagle Scout rank and recognized his volunteer project — building six sensory stations for Writers Unlimited in Ponder. Arozzi spoke briefly about his experience at Philmont and the leadership aspects of scouting.
SART report and appointments: Denton County’s Sexual Assault Response Team presented its biennial report (submitted in accordance with the code referenced in the agenda). The court approved appointees recommended to the SART, including assistant district attorney Rachel Nichols (absent due to trial), Lily Isham (assault team coordinator, Denton County Friends of the Family) and Sgt. Chris Johnson of the Denton Police Department. The court recorded the report as meeting code requirements and approved the appointments.
