Denton County approves $1.5M IT purchase, renews software contracts and OKs multimillion-dollar road agreements

DENTON, Texas — The Denton County Commissioners Court on Dec. 2 approved a series of purchases, contract renewals and interlocal agreements that together commit county funds to technology upgrades and multiple transportation projects.
The court authorized a $1,504,652.32 purchase of storage equipment (listed in the agenda as “Nutonic storage equipment”) from Free at Data Solutions Inc., procured through MX Technology Inc. under a Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) cooperative contract. Commissioners also approved software renewals, including a Vericode agreement for $158,369.65 and an Elastic Cloud security information and event management subscription for $115,970; both were cited as cooperative-purchase transactions.
County leaders said the IT purchases and renewals support security and data infrastructure used across county departments. The storage purchase was moved by Commissioner Edmondson and seconded by Commissioner Mitchell; the motion carried unanimously.
The court also approved a string of interlocal cooperation agreements and professional-services authorizations tied to road projects:
- US 377 North project: total contract cost shown in the agenda as $19,632,049.98, with the court authorizing appropriated funds not to exceed $4,000,000 from the county’s US 377 project line item.
- Straighter Road project (FM 156 to I‑35W): professional services cost listed as $3,560,256 with county authorization not to exceed $1,974,905 from Trip 22 Precinct 4 funds.
- H‑E‑B Connector (Spiritus Ranch Parkway): estimated project cost $5,244,000 with Denton County agreeing to contribute an amount not to exceed $5,244,000 toward satisfactory completion.
- Franklin Road (Carrollton): estimated project cost $6,500,000 with Denton County agreeing to contribute up to $3,250,000 toward completion, funded from the county’s Trip 22 Frankfort Road allocation.
- Hebron Parkway Segment 4: total project $12,750,000 with county contribution not to exceed $6,375,000 from the county’s Hebron Parkway Trip 22 allocation.
All of those motions were adopted unanimously. Commissioners did not debate the motion texts at length during the meeting; the agenda listed funding line items for each project.
The court also approved participation in a workers’ compensation pool administered by the Texas Association of Counties and authorized related administrative arrangements beginning in 2026.
What’s next: Agreements requiring county funds typically proceed to contract execution and coordination with partner municipalities and design consultants. The court recessed into executive session at 09:58; no additional actions on these projects were recorded before recess.
