Ada County EMS reports arrival of ARPA ambulances; one sustained minor damage in transit

Ada County’s EMS director updated commissioners Dec. 2 that a contingent had traveled to Salt Lake City to retrieve four ambulances purchased with ARPA funds. During the return trip, one of the brand-new ambulances was sideswiped by a tractor-trailer near Layton. The director said the damage was superficial to the front bumper, the vehicle remained drivable and no injuries occurred.
"Somewhere around Layton, one of those brand new ambulances was sideswiped by a tractor trailer with minimal damage," the EMS update said. Staff reported the other vehicles are now in town and secured.
Commissioners asked whether the damage and repairs would be covered; the director said the other driver initially did not stop, but the Utah State Patrol later located the vehicle and company, and a final report and responsibility determination are pending. Commissioners also approved the EMS claims journal dated Nov. 28, 2025 and EMS personnel actions by voice vote during the EMS-district portion of the meeting.
No injuries were reported and staff described the repair as superficial. The meeting record does not include a final insurance or liability determination; staff said they had not yet received a final report from Utah authorities.
