A third‑party engineering review of the October 26 flood in Deerfield Beach concluded the recent Southeast 8th Avenue stormwater improvements reduced the duration of standing water but were not designed to prevent flooding during extreme storms, Deputy City Manager Eric Bauer told the City Commission on Dec. 2.
The report, prepared by Chen Moore and Associates at the city’s request, examined design reports, drainage calculations and prior studies. “The report … indicated that the project did help with the alleviation of stormwater once the rain event ended,” Bauer said, while stressing the improvements “are not designed and will not work for heavy flooding.”
