At the Dec. 18 Stonecrest work session staff presented two grant awards and described planned sidewalk projects that will return to the full council for formal acceptance.

Staff said DeKalb County notified Stonecrest of a FY2025 CDBG award of $340,000 to install sidewalks on Salem Road; the presentation made clear this was a notice of award and that the council will be asked to accept the grant via resolution at the upcoming regular council meeting. Staff stated, "We received notice of award from DeKalb County," and that acceptance would be requested by resolution.

Separately, staff reported a GMA 2025 health and wellness grant of $5,500 to support activities at the city’s health and wellness center; that item, too, will come forward by resolution for council action.

Council also added a separate sidewalk discussion for Farrington Road. The city engineer said the Farrington Road project would build roughly 90% of a five-foot concrete sidewalk on the west side of Farrington Parkway to tie apartment areas to the bridge and nearby destinations; one small section by Walmart was not included in the scope as presented. Designers have coordinated with MARTA on stop consolidation and plan to tie remaining missing segments to bridge construction where needed. Staff indicated the Farrington design is complete and will be funded in part by a CDBG grant; final decisions and any required MOAs will appear on the regular agenda for action.

No acceptance votes were taken at the work session; council members agreed the grant acceptances and sidewalk agreements would be on the regular meeting agenda for formal action.
