The Sycamore CUSD 427 Board of Education on Oct. 28 approved the sale of the former administration building at 245 West Exchange Street for $151,000.
The motion to sell was moved, seconded and adopted by roll call after a brief discussion of the district's prior pricing and a broker price opinion. Board members noted the amount represented an improved offer from bids earlier in 2025. The board chair said the sale “marks a significant milestone in the district's ongoing facility planning efforts,” noting the district already completed the sale of its warehouse at 520 Maple Street earlier in the year and relocated administration to a purchased facility at 1947 Bethany Road.
Board members acknowledged the site's history—constructed in 1926 and used as a school until the 1980s before becoming administrative offices—and expressed optimism the buyer will reuse the building in a way that benefits the Sycamore community.
Next steps: the administration will complete closing tasks and report back to the board on the transaction timeline.
