Superintendent Mr. Paramore opened his Dec. 15 report by asking school athletic and performing-arts staff to present a string of student recognitions, saying the district celebrated "phenomenal seasons and great accomplishments" by Ashland High School students.
Mr. Goings, athletic director and assistant principal at Ashland High School, said the class of 2026 already has multiple college commitments. "This class of 2026 is, very, very special," he said, and named Nathan Bernhardt as having "signed his letter of intent to play football for Maryland." Goings presented individual season and career statistics and honors for several athletes, including senior soccer player Amelia Hunt and sophomore volleyball player Arianne Vaughn, both described as All-Ohio selections. He also recognized football players Brandon Briggs, Carson O'Brien, Drayson Martin, Jeff Hickey, Gabe Bathe, Gunnar Lacy and quarterback Nathan Bernhardt for school records and All-Ohio distinctions.
Mr. Goings said the football group won 22 games in two seasons and detailed individual statistics such as passing and rushing yardage and scoring totals. He told the board he plans to frame several retired jerseys paid for by parents as a token of appreciation.
The board and superintendent thanked coaches and families in the audience. "The time, the effort, and the passion" of coaches and parents, Mr. Paramore said, "is immeasurable," adding that the district has a fine-arts signing tradition alongside athletic signings.
Separately, Mr. Kroll, director of music and performing arts, introduced an AHS band ensemble that performed for the board and described recent district music activity: about 40 performances by high-school groups this school year, students accepted to statewide honors ensembles, and alumni pursuing music degrees or professional roles. Quoting a music-therapy researcher, Kroll said, "Nostalgia is baked into Christmas music," and used that idea to explain why seasonal performances resonate with the community.
Board members cited the presentations as evidence of strong school spirit and praised the music and athletic programs for building connections across the community. The segment concluded with the superintendent thanking staff and families for supporting students in both athletics and performing arts.
The board did not take formal action on these recognitions; they were presented as part of the superintendent's report and public acknowledgement of student achievements.
