The Student Affairs Committee of Austin Peay State University heard an overview of the student trustee selection process from Vice President for Student Affairs Leonard Clemens. The university has opened the application period for students interested in serving as the student member on the Board of Trustees for the 2026–27 academic year; the committee heard the presentation as an information item and took no formal action.
Clemens said the selection begins with an open call to students who may submit applications. A designated university screening committee reviews applications and will provide no more than three recommended candidates to the university president. The president will then recommend one student to the Student Affairs Committee for consideration; the selected student trustee will begin service at the June board meeting and serve for the 2026–27 academic year. "The process of recommending a student trustee begins with the open call to students," Clemens said.
The committee noted that the materials, including the minutes from the Sept. 12 meeting, had been circulated in advance and approved the minutes by voice vote earlier in the meeting. The presentation on the student trustee process was informational only and required no committee action. The meeting adjourned following the information items.
Next steps: the screening committee will review applications and forward recommendations to the president; the committee will consider the president's recommendation at the appropriate future meeting.
