The Appoquinimink School District received project updates and approved contracts and change orders Tuesday as building work advances across the campus portfolio.
Mister Hopkins, the district's construction presenter, showed aerial and site photos and said crews are finishing base paving, installing sod, completing sidewalks and preparing courts and outdoor-classroom spaces, with the construction entrance being routed to minimize traffic on Beeston Road. "The field is coming across this side now... all this sod is coming in," Hopkins said during the slide presentation.
Trustees approved two bid-package contracts (13a for grandstands and 26a for site electrical) that came in slightly under budget after required scope and bidder qualification reviews. The board also approved change orders, including a $500,000 ledger reallocation to encumber general requirements on a construction-manager contract (site fencing, temporary services and similar items) and a sod/irrigation package for Lewis Redding, with Hopkins noting the Lewis Redding work remains on budget.
The board approved the contracts and change orders by motion and voice vote.
Next steps: Hopkins said crews will continue exterior finishing and site grading through winter weather windows and will prioritize sod/irrigation and court surfacing to support spring sports. The district will continue monthly construction updates to the board.
