Council extends Charter Review Commission deadline to Nov. 1, 2026

The Stonecrest City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 24 to extend the Charter Review Commission’s completion date to Nov. 1, 2026.
Chairman Thibodaux, who spoke for the commission, said members have reviewed taxation, financial management and audit language, and clarified the city manager’s duties. He told council the commission is further along than it may appear but that aligning the deadline with the legislative session will allow the commission to finalize language and coordinate with counsel and legislators.
Chairman Thibodaux said the commission expects this to be “the final extension” and requested increased public engagement for the committee’s future meetings. Council moved to extend the completion date and approved the recommendation 5–0.
Next steps: staff and the commission will continue deliberations and prepare recommended charter language for review by the city attorney and for outreach to legislators in the next session window.
