Dan Kendall, Bannock County facilities director, updated the board on several facilities projects, including progress on a chambers remodel, response to a Thanksgiving flood at the courthouse, and operations at the youth detention center (YDC).
Kendall said the chambers framing is nearly complete and electricians are scheduled the week after Christmas. He thanked staff and elected officials who helped after a Thanksgiving flood at the courthouse and said epoxy grout used in a recent bathroom remodel likely limited interior damage, enabling a rapid cleanup and reopening.
Kendall also reported that staff assisted with moving furniture, appliances and other equipment into the renovated YDC; he said residents appear settled and staff are monitoring the facility daily. Regarding the old YDC space, commissioners discussed a winter clean-up and potential work by ACOR to remove unnecessary interior walls. Speaker 4 noted that pending ARPA invoices mean the county may be able to reallocate $100,000 in PILT funds to pay for ACOR if those funds are not needed elsewhere.
Commissioners asked to schedule a site walkthrough in early January and to include any related budget considerations when staff return with a plan.
