Albany honors CERT graduates; city issues park closures and renter-rebate reminder

The Albany City Council recognized graduates of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program as part of Monday’s meeting, and the fire department introduced instructors and the city’s first Mandarin-language CERT class. Fire Captain Tim Smizer said the class was the program’s largest and that alumni had completed eight weeks of training and a final scenario exercise.
Assistant City Manager Isabelle provided brief city-manager-level updates: Memorial Park and Ocean View ballfields and the dog park will be closed for approximately three months for seasonal maintenance; eligible homeowners and renters can still apply for the 2025 parcel tax exemption and renter rebates through 12/31/2025 via the city website; and up to 10 sandbags are available free to Albany residents with proof of residency, with sand pickup at the Ocean View Park parking lot.
The council thanked the CERT volunteers and noted the city will continue to publicize storm-preparation resources as the rainy season begins.
