Sergeant Jerry Burns of the Lake Havasu Police Department issued a traffic safety reminder urging drivers not to operate auxiliary or decorative lights on public roadways. He said the department has noticed an uptick in the use of chase lights, whip lights and Christmas-style lighting on side-by-sides and other off-road vehicles during the holiday season and emphasized that such lighting is illegal when used on streets and highways.

Burns told listeners they should operate only normal vehicle lighting — headlights, taillights and turn signals — while on the roadway. He invited vehicle owners with questions to bring their vehicles to the police department for guidance and provided the department's contact number: (928) 855-1171.

The advisory was framed as a seasonal safety reminder and did not announce any new enforcement policy or a change in law. The department asked motorists to comply to reduce confusion and improve roadway safety during increased holiday traffic.
