The Beauregard Parish School Board heard the superintendent's update on the district's new strategic plan and recognized multiple student achievements. The superintendent said the plan uses a four-phase approach and that the district is currently in phase three.
The superintendent (unnamed) directed trustees to page 3 of a slide deck and said, "If you'll look at page 3, you see our approach to strategic planning entails 4 phases." He noted the steering committee meets weekly and that staff and community feedback informed strengths and challenges across student outcomes, culture, curriculum and operations.
Student representative Isabella Palermo reported school-level activities and programs across the parish, including veterans'day events, FFA and club achievements and holiday activities. "I'm excited to begin, so let's get started," Palermo said when introducing her monthly highlights.
Patrick Wertz, the FFA advisor from a parish high school, introduced a team that placed in the top five nationally in FFA competition in parliamentary procedure and forestry. "We ended up fifth in the nation," Wertz said, describing extensive student preparation and community support.
FFA students who spoke thanked school staff and sponsors; student Kayla Giddon said parliamentary procedure "brought me so much confidence and so much structure," and credited her team and advisors for the accomplishment.
The board also heard about awards programs. Jennifer Frederick described a new "New Teacher of the Year" award for first-year teachers and introduced the honoree from KR Henshey. The board recognized the parish'level Students of the Year and explained selection criteria including GPA, interviews and portfolios.
The superintendent closed the report by asking trustees to read the strategic plan materials and submit questions in advance of January's meeting for further discussion.
The board took no formal policy action on the strategic plan itself at this meeting; it was presented for information and scheduled for deeper review in future meetings.
