The Bastrop Independent School District board voted unanimously to approve an employment contract naming Dr. Christy Lee as the district’s next superintendent, and Dr. Lee spoke to the board and attendees accepting the position.

President read a letter from Bastrop Mayor Ishmael "Ish" Harris congratulating Dr. Lee on her selection and urging the board to approve the contract. Following the read‑aloud, a motion to approve the employment contract was made, seconded and carried by a show of hands.

Board members offered brief remarks welcoming Dr. Lee, with several trustees saying they initially had reservations but that their confidence in her leadership grew with experience. Retired school board member Molly McClure and past superintendents Barry Edwards and Mr. Murray were recognized in the audience; Dr. Lee thanked them and other supporters during her remarks.

In her remarks, Dr. Christy Lee said she was humbled and honored to accept the role, noted the district is at a "pivotal moment" full of promise and opportunity, and emphasized that solutions to district challenges will come from collective work. She also mentioned family members in the audience and thanked past mentors and colleagues for their support.

The board adjourned the meeting and invited attendees to a reception following the vote.
